The short version of Sublimation fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.

After lyophilization, the product is usually a porous cake or powder with a large internal surface area. This structure can absorb moisture quickly if exposed to humid air, so vials are sealed under vacuum or an inert gas. Moisture uptake may lower the glass transition temperature of the dried matrix and accelerate chemical or physical degradation. Storage conditions therefore depend on the formulation, container, and intended shelf life. Some products remain stable at room temperature, while others require refrigeration or freezing.
Quality control for lyophilized products includes appearance, cake structure, reconstitution time, pH, residual moisture, and potency. Residual moisture is a key attribute because excess water can reduce stability, while excessively low moisture may cause structural changes or aggregation in some systems. Stability studies compare real-time and accelerated conditions to estimate shelf life. Analytical methods must be validated for the specific matrix, container, and moisture range. Sterility and container integrity are also monitored for sterile products.
Handling practices aim to prevent moisture ingress and mechanical damage. Vials should remain stoppered and crimped until use, and reconstitution should follow the labeled diluent and volume. Shipping may involve temperature-controlled containers and desiccants, but direct contact between desiccant and product is avoided. Regulatory guidance expects documented storage conditions, excursion assessments, and stability commitments. Open questions remain about how best to predict long-term stability from short accelerated studies for every formulation class.
The process usually has three stages: freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying. Freezing sets the ice crystal structure and can determine pore size in the final cake. Primary drying removes free ice by sublimation at low pressure and low shelf temperature. Secondary drying removes bound water by raising the shelf temperature, although some water may remain as part of the solid. Cycle parameters depend on formulation, fill volume, vial type, and equipment performance.
The physical chemistry of freezing influences whether a formulation forms an amorphous glass or a crystalline solid. Amorphous systems can collapse if product temperature rises above the glass transition temperature of the freeze concentrate. Crystalline systems may show eutectic melting, where ice and solute melt together at a fixed temperature. Formulators add bulking agents, lyoprotectants, and buffers to preserve structure and biological activity. The optimum cycle keeps product temperature below critical thresholds during primary drying while allowing efficient sublimation.

Industrial BioTest Labs (IBT) was the most notable whistleblower case where thousands of safety tests for chemical manufacturers were either falsely claimed to have been performed or were of such poor quality that police investigators could not determine the extent of the work completed, despite superficially delivering test results as specified in their contracts with the manufacturers. IBT, a contract laboratory based in Northbrook, Illinois, conducted research for the United States government and various chemical and pharmaceutical companies, both from the U.S. and abroad, and submitted toxicology data to several federal agencies, covering a wide range of products including drugs, insecticides, herbicides, food additives, pesticides, cosmetics, and cleaning products. These issues were aired in hearings at the US Congress, which pressured the FDA to propose draft Regulations on GLP on November 19, 1976, and establishment of the Final Rule in June 1979 which became effective on June 20, 1979. Proposed amendments were introduced on October 29, 1984. The GLP amendment Final Rule was published on September 4, 1987 and became effective on October 5, 1987. Many of the fraudulent safety data concerned chemicals overseen by the new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), so their GLP rule was developed simultaneously with FDA, the EPA issuing its draft GLP regulations in 1979 and 1980, publishing the Final Rules in two separate parts (40 CFR 160 and 40 CFR 792) in 1983.
If a compound containing more than two kinds of building blocks is synthesised, a step is added before the deprotection of the building block bound to the bead; a functional group which is on the bead and did not react with an added building block has to be protected by another protecting group which is not removed at the deprotective condition of the building block. Byproducts which lack the building block of this step only are prevented by this step. In addition, this step makes it easy to purify the synthesised compound after cleavage from the bead.
This study was only looking at people who have erectile dysfunction. This limitation makes it difficult to obtain a true figure as people who took SSRIs and did not have erectile dysfunction were not included. Reports of PSSD have occurred with almost every SSRI (dapoxetine is an exception). In 2019, the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended that packaging leaflets of selected SSRIs and SNRIs should be amended to include information regarding a possible risk of persistent sexual dysfunction. Following the EMA assessment, a safety review by Health Canada "could neither confirm nor rule out a causal link ... which was long lasting in rare cases", but recommended that "healthcare professionals inform patients about the potential risk of long-lasting sexual dysfunction despite discontinuation of treatment". A 2023 review stated that ongoing sexual dysfunction after SSRI discontinuation was possible, but that cause and effect were undetermined. The 2023 review cautioned that reports of sexual dysfunction cannot be generalized to wider practice as they are subject to a "high risk of bias", but agreed with the EMA assessment that cautionary labeling on SSRIs was warranted. On May 20, 2024, a lawsuit was filed by the organization Public Citizen, representing Dr. Antonei Csoka, against the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for failing to act on a citizen petition submitted in 2018.
Despite his criticisms against Marcos, Duterte clarified the prayer rallies were not meant to overthrow the administration but warned Marcos of extending his six-year term, reminding Marcos of his father's fate.

=== Pregnancy === Pregnancy can cause major complications when trying to properly dose the nutrient mixture. Because all of the fetus' nourishment comes from the mother's blood stream, the doctor must properly calculate the dosage of nutrients to meet both recipients' needs and have them in usable forms. Incorrect dosage can lead to many adverse, hard-to-guess effects, such as death, and varying degrees of deformation or other developmental problems. It is recommended that parenteral nutrition administration begins after a period of natural nutrition so doctors can properly calculate the nutritional needs of the fetus. Otherwise, it should only be administered by a team of highly skilled doctors who can accurately assess the fetus' needs.
The city was procuring only electric buses as of 2021, gradually replacing the diesel bus fleet. Moscow was expected to become the leading European city in its share of electric versus gas fuel in public transit by 2019.
When used during pregnancy, the majority of adverse events caused by acupuncture were mild and transient, with few serious adverse events. The most frequent mild adverse event was needling or unspecified pain, followed by bleeding. Although two deaths (one stillbirth and one neonatal death) were reported, there was a lack of acupuncture-associated maternal mortality. Limiting the evidence as certain, probable or possible in the causality evaluation, the estimated incidence of adverse events following acupuncture in pregnant women was 131 per 10,000. Although acupuncture is not contraindicated in pregnant women, some specific acupuncture points are particularly sensitive to needle insertion; these spots, as well as the abdominal region, should be avoided during pregnancy.

Collapse occurs when the product temperature rises above its collapse or eutectic temperature during drying. The frozen matrix loses structure, producing a shrunken or melted appearance. This can slow reconstitution and may affect stability.
Karl Fischer titration is a common method, along with loss on drying and thermogravimetric analysis. Each method has different sensitivity and sample requirements. Results should be interpreted with the product's formulation and container in mind.
No. Lyophilization removes water but is not a sterilization step. Sterile products are typically filtered and filled aseptically before freezing, and container closure integrity is maintained afterward.
The main change is sublimation, in which ice becomes water vapor without melting into liquid water. This occurs when the chamber pressure is held below the vapor pressure of ice while mild heat is supplied. The result is a dry, porous solid that retains much of its original shape.
